try wadding up newspapers and stuffing them inside - change the paper every 24 hours for several changes. After that, tuck a couple of scented dryer sheets in the purse and close it up in a plastic bag for about a week.
I received quilt-blocks in a swap, and some just reeked from being made by a smoker. I put them in bags with crumpled newspaper, then did the dryer sheet trick.

If you can wash them on gentle cycle in the machine, add some baking soda to your detergent. Then add a cup or so of vinegar to the rinse water. You may have to wash them in the sink, but just follow the same instructions. Let them air dry. the smoke smell should be gone, but of they still smell vinegarry then a quick wash with regular detergent will work. Febreze never works well for me. A friend's house burned and she tried everything on her clothes and the baking soda wash and vinegar rinse was the ONLY thing that finally worked.

Leave it outside or by the open window so fresh air can come in. I usually leave my clothes or stuff that smells on the drying stand and leave it by the balcony, with the door wide open. It works^^. Or you could try that Febriz spray. They have one that kills germs as well and it smells nice as well, thought, it seemed to become sticky if it falls on the floor. So when you spray it, make sure you do that outside or in the bath room or something.

I go to smokey clubs all the time. To get the smell out of my sweaters I hang them in my bathroom so they get steamed and shampoo scented while I shower. It usually works pretty well.

you can try one or both of these, take something that breathes (such as a coffee filter), and put inside it either bakingsoda or coffee grounds(un brewed of course).
