my computer was shutting off out of now where the other day, and i went to reformat the harddrive...well, it gets to the same point in the reformatting and just turns itself off, or freezes up...do i have to buy another computer?

it shouldn't shut down in reformatting but it will in defraging. In defrag it will hiccup any time the data changes and sometimes restart. If it is deframenting and shuts down - restart the process and take a nap - when you wake up do it again or go to the C: prompt and type defrag

It doesn't sound like a hard drive to me.

You may have a temperature issue. Try taking the side off the computer and turn it on and check your fans. Make sure your vents are clean and clear.

Since you started reformatting you will have to finish so leave the side off and try to reformat.

Okay you got to use the fdisk command in dos before formatting and choose Ntfs file system and then format your hard disk and the installation will be successful.

Sound like a faulty hard drive, replace it and reinstall Windows should help.

try to change hard drive. U dont need to change computer.
