i just bought my computer a 256 ddr 400 memory,how can i know if the memory is working properly?

my computer have 256 memory,i only add another 256 memory which can be total as 516 total memory then,the 2 memory have different brand maker,is it going to be a problem?what benefits do i have now in adding another memory?

As long as they are both the same speed you are fine....
I have one 512 and one 256 in my laptop, both different makers and it works fine....

Sound like your onboard graphics card is taking some for its own use, which is normal.

If yuo can see 516, then the new memory went in ok, memory can be mixed, but ideally they should be the same, to avoid timing issue as each manufacture does their memory in a slightly different way, but most should work.

Benefits of more memory is Windows will have to do less swapping, making normal operation faster.

if you right click on my computer and then click on the general tab it will tell you down the bottom how much ram you have. The more ram the faster your system will respond to your requests.
