Allele, (pronouncedal-eel or al-e-ul) is any one of a number of viable DNA codings occupying a given locus (position) on a chromosome. Usually alleles are DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequences that code for a gene, but sometimes the term is used to refer to a non-gene sequence. An individual's genotype for that gene is the set of alleles it happens to possess. In a diploid organism, one that has two copies of each chromosome, two alleles make up the individual's genotype. The word came from Greek αλληλος = "each other".
A gene is a locatable region of genomic sequence, corresponding to a unit of inheritance, which is associated with regulatory regions, transcribed regions and/or other functional sequence regions.[1] Genes interact with each other to influence physical development and behavior. Genes consist of a long strand of DNA (RNA in some viruses) that contains a promoter, which controls the activity of a gene, and a coding sequence, which determines what the gene produces. When a gene is active, the coding sequence is copied in a process called transcription, producing an RNA copy of the gene's information. This RNA can then direct the synthesis of proteins via the genetic code. However, RNAs can also be used directly, for example as part of the ribosome. These molecules resulting from gene expression, whether RNA or protein, are known as gene products.

There are not any fastened sort of genes linked to each and each chromosome. they selection everywhere between almost 3000 and slightly over 2 hundred. check out wikipedia or some thing for a chart. Now, alleles are characteristics expressed by means of genes. that's greater problematical to tie the kind of characteristics expressed by means of which genes wherein chromosome as we aren't executed mapping the human genome yet. think of of it this way - there is not any single merchandise spoke of as an allele. i will not p.c. up an allele and carry it in my hand any further than i will p.c. up colour and carry it in my hand. that's an precis. although, the characteristics those alleles exhibit are actual, inclusive of eye colour, hair colour, sort of hands, proclivity to maximum cancers, etc.

Genes contain information about a specific characteristic or trait and can either be dominant or recessive. An allele of a gene is it's partner gene, for example b is an allele of B and vice versa.
