Very very deep insights.......

Yes, our mind is both a blessing and a curse.

Myself, I'm glad we are beings that have minds and that have self-consiousness, I would rather live that way than have no self awareness and everything I do is preprogrammed. The good more than makes up for the bad......

Do I think that we were given a mind as some sort of cosmic punishment? Actually in a way I believe we were, I'm a Christian, and that is partly what the story of Adam and Eve is really about. People who look at it only on its surface as a story about a man and a woman in an earthly paradise and along comes a cunning serpent are missing the point of the story.

The real point of the story is: We wanted to be like gods, with a knowledge of good and evil. an intellect, etc. and God basically said "OK, here you go then - have at it". And for better or worse, here we are..........

Good question, maybe so. I know people who do use their mind as some kind of torture device to mull over the past and what they should have done or not done, or what may happen in the future. I think we all do that to some extent, but I pity the people who are locked in to that kind of funk and don't know how to escape.

I think people are essentially split into glass is half empty or half full mentality. The people who can focus on the positive and minimise the negative are the ones who have minds free of ifs and buts and maybes.

The mind is a powerful tool and can be a curse or a blessing, you can literally drive yourself mad and like someone else said, we still only use a fraction of the mind's capacity. I think it's best to focus on the here and now, at least we have some modicum of control over that, the rest is just a mind trap which could drive you to distraction, drink, drugs to dull out the pain.

Think of the holiday seasons and the increase of suicides, why the media always puts helpline numbers over Christmas as people are always thinking over the past when they have time to do so, and thinking of what could have been or what actually did happen, that can send people over the edge. We're very vulnerable people and I think the mind can sometimes be very cruel in how it keeps hold of all the bad memories and overshadows the good.

I say get a case of good beer and invite a couple of friends over. You can have a barbecue or bake a fish in the oven. Make some apple crisp for dessert, baked sweet potatoes, squash, apples, hollandaise sauce, the works. Light a few candles, put on the radio, eat dinner, joke around, play-wrestle, go for a walk or bike ride, play croquet, cards and badminton in the back, kick the soccer ball around.

That's a great question. I think (therefore I am) we were given the highest power of thought so we could rule the earth and have dominion over all else. Unfortunately, we go to war. Man misuses his power, but God must have known that. @8-)

i tend to agree-sometimes it's hard to shut off the nasty thoughts-i.e. something horrible happening to my children, my mother dying during surgery tomorrow(i shudder as i say type those words)-but they are there and they do torture-life would be easier, i suppose, if we had been created w/ a filter or possibly a switch, to close off the thoughts when they come. ahh, if only.

We know just enough to know that we know almost nothing. We use almost nothing of all those cells in our brains. But I consider our minds a blessing.

It is a gift given by God. God could have chosen to make everything one color, but did he? He could have chosen not to give us taste buds, but he didn't. God is a loving GOD.
