Roger Maris was born in Hibbing, Minnesota on September 10, 1934.
The New York Yankee outfielder is best known for hitting sixty-one home runs in 1961. His 61 in '61 set a new major league record, breaking Babe Ruth's previous mark of 60 hit in 1927. In 1963, after missing a ground ball hit in a nationally televised game, he gave the middle finger to a jeering Minneapolis crowd.
Athlete playing in Minnesota?
I'd say Kirby Puckett..! Although he had some issues after retirement... its what he did as a player for Twins and Minnesota that is deserving of the title of the Best Minnesota Athlete of all time...
