I read this when i was about 10 but I can hardly remember anything about it and it's been bugging me all these years! At the beginning I think it had a princess playing with a cup and ball toy. It was quite a magical book, and it might have had the same author as The Borrowers but not necessarily. Also I seem to connect The Frog Prince with it for some reason. Sorry this is so vague! Any help would be much appreciated!

Mary Norton wrote the Borrowers; also Bed-knobs and Broomstick. There's one I haven't read but it has a lot of fairy tale characters in it, like Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, etc. A boy named James is helping the daughter of Beauty & the Beast search for a magical frog. It's called "Are All the Giants Dead?" Could that be it?
