Because the majority of ordinary people live their lives in a conservative way. And because the Democrats offer no hope, but higher taxes.

The easiest answer is that democrats usually find a way to shoot themselves in the foot. A more "reasoned" answer would be that the country is basically 30% conservative and 30% liberal. So you only have to win 51% of the remaining 40% in the middle. If Hillary wins the nomination (most likely outcome), the conservative base on the right will outspend the democrats probably by about 2-to1. As long as the republicans put up someone marginally acceptable to the religious right faction of the republican party, like a guliani (who was actually leading hillary in the senate race in ny originally), then the republicans have a legitimate shot at retaining the white house. Also, if the Iraqi war continues to improve, then Democrats are gonna have to answer criticisms for being against it after being for it. The biggest hurdle for Democrats will be convincing the voters in that middle block that they are not undermining the men in uniform fighting overseas.

Because the liberal agenda merely calls for change. They offer no plans of hope or fresh ideals, but rather run on a platform that simply states, "Had Enough? Vote Democrat".
This is why we've only had two Democratic presidents since 1969. Let's run 'em for another four years come '08.

We look at what you put up for candidates and see your party still doesn't have a clue why they gained majorities in the Congress. We see the satisfaction numbers with Congress continue to drop as they still do not respond to the citizens. The majority of Americans want to succeed in Iraq and they don't want our troops to suffer because of political posturing. We want less spending, we want something done about social security, we want something done about the borders. We want intelligent alternatives not endless investigation of what we already know.

I wonder about that too. Without Dieblod and Katherine Harris to help them this time, they may be in serious trouble.

They are a house divided within themselves thanks to their last candidate and commander in chief. The only hope they have at this point is that the next democratic president fails miserably.
