It is a NOUN , "the quality of being creative", "the ability to create"

Examples:

You only have tune fish for a sandwich. You don't want the same old thing. So you make Tuna pancakes.

You have one room for dining room or living room:
You arrange the furniture so that you create the look of half of the room as living room, and the other half as a dining area.

You have a toaster oven, You want the cover to match your kitchen decor. You can't find one at the store. So you purchase material with the color to match you kitchen decor.
Youcut the material to the size you want it and make four seams. Walla, you have a toaster oven cover.

I did all these 3 things, I have more examples but I am sure you get the Idea.

I disagree with Samlyn Josfyn's definition sourced from 'invariantology'. Creativity can not be defined by the process alone that makes it possible... it should be defined by what it brings to the fore. Creativity must have a positive effect in terms of an end use... merely change in order within a unified existence could as well bring about chaos... and for sure, bringing chaos into being is not creativity. By positive I do not mean good, making a new Bomb is also creativity.

I would define creativity as imaginative manipulation of existing entities so as to bring into being a different entity that has a new or enhanced capability for any given or desired end use.

To me creativity is a talent. It starts within you and also can be inherited.E.g,let's take a quick look at some of the great minds we know of.The wright brothers really worked hard to make their dreams come true.To them it didn't matter when others joked about their idea, but in one way or the other they had to do what's right and they did it.Look at Galileo,he had to know what gravity is,so first he had to know how it works and then put it into test, and it worked. All this people and many more had one thing in common, they used their brains. They didn't need to go to school like we do.So to me,creativity is an inner talent that no one can give you.As for judging,it depends on what you are judging, but the explanation that you get from the creator of a particular thing and the uniqueness that it has makes a talent known. You'll definitely know that this is a creative mind.I hope i paved the way for you to understand.

isn't cre8ivity the ability to think different from others?
a work is deemed creative if it is rarely or never seen in any way of the same matter.

now to professional

Creativity (or creativeness) is a mental process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts, or new associations between existing ideas or concepts. From a scientific point of view, the products of creative thought (sometimes referred to as divergent thought) are usually considered to have both originality and appropriateness. An alternative, more everyday conception of creativity is that it is simply the act of making something new. Although intuitively a simple phenomenon, it is in fact quite complex. It has been studied from the perspectives of behavioural psychology, social psychology, psychometrics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, philosophy, history, economics, design research, business, and management, among others. The studies have covered everyday creativity, exceptional creativity and even artificial creativity. Unlike many phenomena in science, there is no single, authoritative perspective or definition of creativity. Unlike many phenomena in psychology, there is no standardized measurement technique.

Creativity has been attributed variously to divine intervention, cognitive processes, the social environment, personality traits, and chance ("accident," "serendipity"). It has been associated with genius, mental illness and humour. Some say it is a trait we are born with; others say it can be taught with the application of simple techniques. Although popularly associated with art and literature, it is also an essential part of innovation and invention and is important in professions such as business, economics, architecture, industrial design, science and engineering.

Despite, or perhaps because of, the ambiguity and multi-dimensional nature of creativity, entire industries have been spawned from the pursuit of creative ideas and the development of creativity techniques. This mysterious phenomenon, though undeniably important and constantly visible, seems to lie tantalizingly beyond the grasp of scientific investigatio

Well, i don't like the word "judge" in this context. How can someone judge a piece of creative work? What seems creative to you may seem nothing to me and vice versa. That's my view.

To answer your question "correctly", the criteria to judge a creative work comes from how closely it adheres to the standards of aesthetics.

Art is the only thing left that expresses true freedom. As you can see, people even make art conditional and set parameters to define it. They simply tag it. In other words, they tag freedom and to me, I have problem accepting it.

I feel that creativity is showing one's own true worldview, personality, individuality, and feelings through a medium such as poetry and painting. Creativity is different in every different individual's view, and so you judge it as such, but if you don't like someone's work, it doesn't mean it's bad.

I myself write and read poetry, and I like many works, especially one's written by Edgar Allan Poe and Robert Frost.
