Shake them before hanging out and shake well when bring them in , this fluff's the fibres, You can use baking soda in the wash this makes them soft and fluffy.
Fabric softeners can make them less absorbant!

One way to save £££££ while using the tumble dryer.Don't use any fabric softener at all,buy those balls that heat and soften the clothes really very well. You can get them in Boot's the chemist or order from Lake land stores or on line.I
v'e halved the time on all my towels and they are really lovely and fluffy.
They work so well,i put in 4 balls with a big wash ,and the washing is dry enough for ironing in no time.

You could put them in the dryer with a fabric softner sheet for about half an hour, then hang them to air dry. That should help keep them soft. Take care.

Adding fabric softener does make towels that little bit softer but does make them a bit water repellent!!
Give them a good shake when you take them out of the washing machine, then air dry them 'til they're nearly dry and then give them 10 or so minutes in the drier. Using those drier balls may help too!!

When I was trying to save money and energy, I would only dry jeans and towels and hang everything else. I hate that feeling of a "hard" towel too. One trick I found to help when I did dry them on the line, along with the liquid softener, was to snap them a couple of times while I was folding them. Whip them into shape I say!!

Add extra fabric softener to each load. About 2x's the recommended amount.

My missus uses about half a big bottle of comfort pure in each load, they smell great and feel soft.
Why don't you want to use you dryer?
