A few major events:

1) Seven Years War - The America/British forces capture Canada, and all of Canada (French and part of Quebec at this point) falls under British rule.

2) Quebec Act - Brits make this act restricting British settlement into Quebec, guaranteeing Quebecois rights (made basically to suck up to Quebecois because most Natives were friends with them and they realize how easy it would be for the Quebecois to revolt). This act was an intolerable act in the 13 colonies.

3) American Revolution - Quebec sides with Britain against America (becuase of various reasons, but most have to do with the Quebec Act), and as a result Central Canada remains loyal to the British Crown. After the war, American loyalists settle Southern Quebec, and they break it up into a new colony called "Upper Canada", while present day Quebec is "Lower Canada".

4) Lord Durhams Report - After the rebellions in Canada, Lord Durham makes an assessment that colonies must be completely self governing. This becomes a model for colonies all over the British Empire. To assimilate Quebecois Upper and Lower Canada unite where French are the minority. The new province of Canada is later the cornerstone for Confederation with Ontario (Upper Canada), Quebec (Lower Canada), New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia as the first provinces in Canada.

That's history to confederation. There's tons of stuff after like the Quiet Revolution in the 1940 -60's. The FLQ Crisis, the Meech lake Accord, 2 referendums in between all that. You're gonna have to look up all that stuff. Quebec has a long nad complex history.
