Generally, all people are sensitive to the brands they are using. The person who uses the branded goods is assured of its quality and the useable value of the product concerned as he has experienced (used)the same before.
Whereas, in the case of the unbranded goods he has to experiment it every time as to its fitness, quality and useability. The only advantage of the unbranded goods is its price which will be less than that of the branded goods. Buying of unbranded goods is like a lottery. If everything goes well you will get full value for the money you paid otherwise you will end up in buying a dead product.
The premium you pay towards the branded goods is for the infrastructure the manufacturer has created to brand the goods and for providing the sales channels.
Last but not the least comes the to keep a dignity of a person. For eg. you cannot expect a senior executive of the Company to wear a unbranded product. Hence even though the unbranded product available at one third of the price people prefer branded goods.

A branded product always has a psychological advantage due to the 'standards' most of the branded products maintain.
The 'standard', what we mean is in the following:
1. Product Quality
2. After sales Service
3. Guarantee
4. Performance
5. Product Life
6. Last and not the least Loyalty to the brand
The cheaper product often does not always give the advantages listed above for the branded ones !

People don't buy brand named clothes because the quality is any better. People buy brand named clothes because it's a status symbol. Like you said, you can get a nice cotton t-shirt for about $5 at Wal-Mart or TJ Maxx, but as soon as you a brand name across the chest, the price jumps up to about $40 or $50. By wearing this shirt with this brand name, the person wearing is letting everyone know their status in society. By wearing a brand named shirt, they are silently telling everyone who sees them that they can afford a shirt that costs $50. For those not wearing name brand clothes, it's also a status marker saying that "I can't afford to spend $50 on just one shirt."
This is how most people look at brand name gear.

it is the reputation of the brand and the belief of the customer on the quality and life of the product. a person fears to buy 300 rs t- shirt because he don't know what it is ? like eventhough all material r same, he doubts its originality and life . so he chooses 900 rupees lacoste ( of cource those who have thick pocket)

1) The branded has the quality inscribed in it, there is no necessity for u to check it later.
2) To show the status high.
3) It seems U have not absorbed people rather buying other than branded goods.

Are you asking why people buy brand name clothing??
The same reason they buy expensive cars, live in expensive houses they can't afford...etc.
It's a status symbol...they want to impress others...."hey look at me I wear Ralph Lauren"
I agree with you...if you can get the same exact thing at a lower price then by all means buy the less expensive one as long as your not sacrificing the quality!
