The clutch only vibrates when slightly pressed. When fully released or pushed in, it does not do this. Also, I can't get into 1st gear, it's as if the stick is locked. It was working fine the last time I drove it.
What can I do? I can't even take the car to the mechanic because I can't get it in gear.
Is this a symptom of clutch wearing out? I thought it would be less dramatic...like clutch slipping a little initially.

My experience with clutchs tells me that you might have a throwout bearing problem or an adjustment issue. I don't know what kind of car you have so it is hard to tell whether it can be adjusted or not. Cars with hydraulic clutchs can't be adjusted most of the time but there are exceptions of course. Cars that have a cable can usually have end play and friction point adjustments done to them. You could also have a transmission problem such as a broken fork or a bad synchronizer. Try putting the car in a different gear or shut the car off and then try to put it in gear. If it will go into gear when the car is off you definitely have a clutch issue. If it won't go into gear with the car off you have a transmission issue. You might check the shifter linkage to see if there is any damage because it could cause the car to not go into a gear.

It sounds as if something is broken inside your clutch. To drive your car, try turning "OFF" your engine. Gently push on the gear shift as you depress the clutch pedal to get into 1st gear or reverse. Now try to start the engine while holding the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor. Make sure you have a full clutch reservoir. Usually, brake fluid is used in the clutch reservoir. If you hear strange noises or the car trys to move while the clutch is disengaged, you may need to get a tow or learn how to shift without using the clutch at all.

Give this a try. Push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. Then, SLOWLY lift the pedal while pushing the stick into first. If it's going to work it will do so when the pedal is within 2 inches of the floor. If that doesn't work, try cartalk.com. You can type in your problem in a search bar, and hopefully some solutions will come up for you.

Some times under foot carpet slides up and comes below the clutch lever. It does not allow the clutch be fully pressed.
Otherwise you have to adjust the clutch wire tight so that clutch may act little early.

Sounds like the synchronizer's in the transmission are worn out,not letting you shift from one gear to another.Call a tow truck to get it to a mechanic. Then again,it could be as simple as worn out bushings in your shifting linkeage, but that would not answer the vibration problem.you may have more than one problem.

If it was working fine yesterday and not slipping but today you cant get it into gear it sounds like the cutch has somehow got damp overnight causing it to rust slightly and get stuck.
Put it on a tow truck and get your local mechanic to free it up.

get on to second or, with some difficulty, third, gear and drive to the mechanic's: if you can't move at all, then, you have to get the expert to come and have a look at the clutch plate.

It sounds jammed. Take it to a good mechanic. Stay off the road. In first you will be coasting slower and slower and won't get up and down hills. Wears down the breaks. Unlikely you're going to get through those mountains.
