If you had to hire someone for a position, and you had a choice between someone who had more experience, versus someone who had a higher education level, which would you tend to favor?

I go every time for experience coupled with good personality over qualifications. However, qualifications do count and requirements for these would be in the advertising for the position.

If I had someone already in my company who proved to be a good worker, experienced and a willingness to learn I would probably move them into the position.

In general, I would favor the person with experience, because there's a lot you don't learn through the education system but must be learnt hands-on. I would also look at who has the higher EQ, and their character traits as that will give insight into how well this person will fit into the organisation/company.

It also depends on what kind of position you're referring to. If the position is a research-based position, then I would tend to go for someone with a higher education level.

I myself would hire the peorson with the Experience .It would bypass and probable speed up the training process also.Just because someone has a higher Education does not mean, that they are smarter.I myself have met many higher educated people that didn`t have any common sence what so ever.

Experience as its going to pay off straight away. The latter you will have to train for a while causing two people to be lost in work whilst this is happening.

Hope that helps you some.

Personally, I would go for the more experienced person.

Corporate America will go for education.
