Does it send a message letting you know you machine is getting ready to shut off or does it do it automatically? Sometimes you computer will "prompt" you to either shut your computer down, or it will let you know it's going to shut it down for you after doing a scan. This is normal. However, if it doesn't prompt you or if it's shutting down during mid process, there might be other problems.
It shouldn't shut your computer off, at least without prompting you. You might want to watch out for these "free" s/w downloads of antivirus/spyware software. Some advertisements, as such, can actually carry malicious code that will damage your hard drive. If it's within you means to by antivirus s/w from McAfee or another well know product, I would buy that instead and do a clean run to see what is actually causing this problem... or if it is virus related.

If you've just recently downloaded a new program in to your computer that maybe the problem. Sometimes new programs are incompatible with other software that is already on your computer. I've had this problem before. The best thing to do is to try removing any new software and see what happens the next time you use your anti virus or antispyware software. If your computer stays on then you've solved the problem...if not I would try removing another program.
