I question the label as they are only made out of polyester and other common materials so perhaps I can wash them after all. Ive noticed that normal clothes often say dry clean only when they can be washed, so maybe this is the same scenario. These gloves really are smelly though so I have to do something, is an alternative to soap and water?

Well they are saying on the label don't wash because polyester will shrink alot even more than cotton will sometimes and especially if there is some ornamentation on them this would be almost impossible to wash in the machine, but you can still wash them safely yourself, by handwashing in a sink half full of cool or warm water to which you have added a quarter of a cup of Baby shampoo, this will make them soft and it really cleans nice without harming the fabric, I do lots of handwashables and do not wash items in this and it has never hurt them yet.

If I were you and ski wear is expensive after all I would take them to be dry cleaned. I washed a pair once and could not get them back to shape, something to do with the lining.

Surely ski gloves can get wet. Sure what happens if you get snow on them and it melts. Doubt there'd be a problem hand washing them, just use warm water, no soap or anything

If they are just smelly I would turn them inside out and rinse in methylated spirits then squeeze dry in a towel and leave to dry out completely.
