The Malaysia RM1 coins have been demonetized effective 7th December 2005, which means that they are no longer legal tender or have any value. They can no longer be exchanged at banks as well because members of the public were given a three-month period from 7th September to 6th December 2005 to exchange the RM1 coins at face value at the Central Bank or commercial banks. You can, however, try to sell the obsolete coins to coin dealers but only if your coins are in uncirculated condition, meaning that they are still in shiny golden color. Dealers will, however, pay you less than the face value since the coins are considered worthless.

the RM 1 coins has since withdrawn for circulation on 07 December 2005. you may bring those coins directly to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) & see if they are willing to change into Ringgit notes.

it is no longer in use because there used to have many counterfeit RM1 coints in the market. you can always exchange it at the bank negara malasia with the same face values.
