Because we are born with a sin nature. Everyone is. Jesus Christ is the only truly "good" person that can save us from being "mean" and feeling the effects of other mean people.

You can yourself guess the reasons. Mean mentality stems from selfishness and ego. They are never concerned with others, they live only for themselves and their kith and kin. nagarajan.
