An anomaly is an exception to what you thought you knew. However, in celestial mechanics certain angles are called anomalies: the mean anomaly, the eccentric anomaly, the true anomaly. These are anomalous uses of the word anomaly.

When you know that A = B
and you know that B = C
and you know that A is bigger than C
than you have an anomaly... because it's impossible...
