Well after hearing dna from a blowfish gets put into tomatoes (thanks to genetic recombination technology) and I started to wonder

Woww, a spitting cobra?? 10 feet??!! Interesting :) (imagine how far a boa/spitting cobra could spit...51.50 feet)

Inserting genes and crossbreeding are two seperate things.

We could, in theory, insert genes for cobra venom... but that does not mean the animal would have fangs. If we inserted the genes for fangs and venom, that does not mean the two would be connected. Fix all of that and the resultant animal will still not know how to use this. How on earth do you teach a constricting snake to totally change its behavior to bite, release, and hunt rather than constricting?

What would you feed this thing? Boas eat warm-blooded animals, King cobras eat snakes.

So... the first question is 'what is your ultimate goal'? What characteristics are you looking for? What do you want this thing to do?

Knowing that, we can gene-splice between different animals to get the goal.

Cobras lay eggs and cannot breed or be cross bred with live bearing animals, like boas.

Sorry, might be something to take some chemistry classes, take some veterinary classes and give it a whirl in a lab at some university that has the money to spend on testing and research.

It would make a heck of a thesis.

Curiosity or stupidity? Have you seen the size of full grown King Cobras let alone a Boa constrictor... hey ther are enough problems with things like pit bulls without trying to breed an even bigger more lethal monster!!
Maybe they should try to work out how to give people extra brain cells so that they dont go doing stupid things that not only endanger themselves but also every other innocent person for generations to come.

Why on earth would anyone want to cross breed a King Cobra with a Boa for? No, don't answer that, let me guess..."You Want to Be different than the rest of us"

I think that the Cobra would certainly kill the Boa, but however being I am no snake expert in breeding department, I am going to suggest Artificial insemination...with great careful approaching.

Wouldn't a False Cobra be somewhat more safer to breed with a Boa?

well, first... why would you want to? but most importanty just because the two are snakes doesnt mean it could happen, I mean look at people, we're primates, and so are gorilla's.... but it wouldnt work out if you jumped into a ape cage and wined and dined her....... some animals can interbreed.... like a kingsnake and a cornsnake... their called jungle corns, already been done, but their more closely related..... like different races of people
now thats possible right??? we see that every day amongst us. but not once have I ever seen a person and a monkey......
you could breed an emerald tree boa and an amazon tree boa..... closely related, but not an emerald tree boa and a green tree python...... not very closely related. anyway.... good luck you mad scientist...

That would be interesting to observe. You are gonna have to experiment---which could be costly. You know as well as I know that the cobra eats other snakes and the spitting cobra is a direct hit with their venom up to 10 feet, then they slither over and kill them with their toxic venom. A boa has to get close enough to strangle you. They are natural enemies, so make sure that they are both well fed before you experiment. No guarantee, but they might be less of a threat to each other.

Not gonna happen unless you have the technology to build a time machine and go into the future to see if crossing breeding two different species of snake was a scientific priority..

fine wine, candles, soft music maybe a chick flick like snakes on a plane to get the female in the mood. sorry couldn't resist.
theoretically you would need to splice the gene's for outer species fertilization. it would probibly die before being hatched as to the mismatch in genetics and chromosomes. in reality that will probably never happen no matter how our technology advances. unless it could be used like a new guard dog. I could see the sign on the gate. beware of snake. or maybe........
** trespassers will be constricted, survivors will be bitten.**

Some that does not exist. They are two different varieties of snake and snakes cant cross breed.

It like and old wives tale in my area:

People say that black snakes are interbreeding with water mocasins.

They cant black snakes are non poisonous constrictors. They also lay eggs.

Mocasins are poisonous vipers. They give birth to live young.

It cant happen.
