I have also used a heating pad as well as a hot water bottle for whenever I've had cramps. Something else I've been doing that helps control some of the cramping is to increase my iron levels during that time. I do so by eating things like spinach (I like it and am mentioning it in case you like it too), raisins, peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course) as some examples.
Another kind of pack that I've used for cramping is a pack filled with herbs that can be used either hot or cold, wet or dry.
But I would recommend that you see your dr to have this evaluated. This is especially important if the cramps are affecting your ability to function on a daily basis.

I have always had horrid cramps. You honestly need to see the Medical Doctor for treatment. However until you can get there here are some things my mother showed me. One, take a hot bath/shower. ( avoid cold including swimming the cold makes the cramps worse) the heat will relax your body and your muscles. Two, after wards, lie down with a heating pad over your abdomen. Elevate the feet. Avoid tampons during this time. I usually need a fan blowing on me about this time also. ( i have no idea why). I keep food light, and indulge in comfort foods at this time. Toast, chocolate, diet sodas, plenty of water, mac and cheese ( for some weird reason) you get the idea. I did some reading that suggested tapioca pudding might help? and or Black liquorish. I had an older woman tell me that wearing supportive under wear, we call them squash panties here, helps support. I find them to be a nuisance, and hinders me when i go to the bathroom. Hygiene is important but can also help you feel better. Plenty of rest. Girls now days don't have to suffer as much as we did though. Go to the doc and see what he says.

I remember having extremely bad cramps when I was younger, I'd take some anti-inflamitory (over the counter) pills such as ib profen, or naproxen sodium, then I would fall asleep. Sometimes masturbating would help me. Getting turned on made the cramps feel better (sometimes).
Cheers

#try taking a lot of mint, it a natural relaxant and helps a great deal in digestion too.
#also prefer orange juice, strawberries and kiwis instead of Papaya or pineapple.
# beat up half a cup of curd with little water and salt (to taste), drink chill garnished with mint leaves, i'm sure it will help you a lot.
# do not overburden yourself with physical activity.
# have a nice relaxing bath always with lukewarn water before going to bed.
