All knowlege is good. CIS is a moving target. What they teach in schools is not what the industry wants. Indeed, a vocation in CIS requires you to be under 30 before a boss will pay you to keep current.

But, if you ever wanted to customize your computer, learning something like a scripting language will greatly help you. Say you wanted to categorize your hobby, be that it would be music, flower pics or whatever. A scripting language can be very powerful.

Javascript customizes your browser to make interactive web pages. "Ant" runs pretty much anything in the way of file manipulation. Perl, Ruby, Python are other scripting languages. They're all free for the download, javascript is already on your machine you might need a good book. The others have online documentation and books at the bookstores.
