I think the quality of any information is related to it ends. The real reason for the information or idea being passed over the Media, it's what should be taken on consideration. It is like marketing. If I wrote something positive about a subject because I am being paid for that and the reasons of my words are related to money or any particular interest besides given my real opinion, it's corruption. It should not be taken seriously because my opinion is reflect of corruption.
Oprah made her fortune by giving real opinions on she was requiered to give. That's why she has big investors to invest their business on her. Her opinion sells books and lobby business on almost any field.
All this gossips about celebrities by the media, has the goal of setting people's mind to a wrong direction. While people are spending their time with all the circus created by celebrities they become lacking of information about seriously subjects as economy, politicians and health. If a country has been blind by its economy's state, health and politician, they are away of assimilating important information's that would lead them to wiser choices, like a better leader.

low quality information means

the information gathered doesn't have enough basis to be supported. It may be acquired mouth-to-mouth or written.

An example is,

When I installed new computers in school 2 years ago, the students grades in this batch increased 20%.

The above information is of low quality since the basis of the installation of new computers doesn't directly support that it had caused the 20% increase inthe students grades.

Gossips can be considered low quality since most of it are just here says but I believe that calling celebrities low quality humans is a type of low quality information. It doesn't have basis to directly support the information. c=

No, I don't think gossip is evil. It's just a form of information. Quality of the information just depends on how people see it. Take a look at http://www.entertainmentjuice.com we collect articles from a number of gossip blogs and news site. We streamline the information. But its not low quality.

Hm - I think the key is why do people want to know? I have come across quite a few occasions when I should have known something, but people didn't want to "gossip" and so you actually make the situation worse because you don't know when to be tactful.
But anything to do with celebrities is low quality - we don't know them! And of course, it seems as though they'll do anything for publicity anyway, so they're easy targets.
