You will find that all trade stores refuse to accept their own 1-cent coins in Malaysia, although it is of course legal tender there. Aren't they breaking some law by not accepting that money?

Today I bought a tin of milk for RM 2.10 and I offered 2 RM 1 notes, 1 5-cent coin and 5 1-cent coins and the 1-cent coins were not accepted. This can be quite frustrating!

They're accepted in Sarawak...

But if you want to pay a RM 100 bill with 1-sen coins nobody will accept that.

If I'm not mistaken they are obliged to accept up to 10 pcs 1-sen coins but I'm not so sure. I know there is some regulation that says they must accept coins up to some amaunt.

Not happening only in Malaysia... all over the world.

In Singapore, people give you those kind of dirty look when you give them more than 2 5cents.

If they have the guts to tell you that they do not accept the legal tender, tell then to charge you only $2 for your milk...
