As a not much travelled man who is drawing too close to his pension book for comfort, I do, as a writer, tend to resort to books, pen and ink more than most.
Some of my fellow writers on a writing site that I frequent are Americans, and do not seem to have the brash personality that personifies their typical image.
However, the sheer hypocracy of a nation boasting the inspirational Statue of Liberty, and their written constitution, denying other nations the right to decide their own destiny, is breathtaking.
They give the appearance of wanting every country on Earth to become mini Americas, and take it upon themselves to impose illegal sanctions against countries who resist, such as Cuba.
Might is right, has become their philosophy and they have succeeded during its 200 years of independance, of selling both it and democracy to the highest bidder.
They have been corrupted by the power of the dollar, and to maintain it have resorted to hijacking control of the oil supplies of the Midle-East.
Iraq was invaded for its oil, but it was our own government which prepared and supplied the dodgy document.
We resent the power exherted over us by an unelected and illegal EU Parliament, just as other nations resent the power of the USA over them.
And if the USA keeps trying to bully us into accepting GM crops then it may well find it has lost another ally.
The Americans extradited and tried the direcors of various British Auction Houses and put them on trial for price rigging.
Ford, General Motors, and Sanyo have been rigging their prices to us for years, so why no trial for them?

Yes, I am quite aware how much Americans are disliked overseas. It is a common theme almost everywhere. It is sad that this country thinks they have freedom and liberty. I find it to be the most enslaved country. By that, I mean enslaved to the dollar. A majority run off to stores constantly, and not just walmart. They run to grocery stores and buy food for a week or more at a time, processsed crap that they pay so much money for, instead of whole foods. The kids idea of a Saturday outing ia to hang out at the mall. The list goes on and on. Yes, there is a very strong sense of dislike in other countries. The gentleman abvce me is a prime example. I wonder if he has been anywhere else to compare his great country.

I personally believe that generalizing is always wrong...You cannot label millions of people as stupid and ignorant just because they're Americans. There is a very high level of ignorance in the USA indeed; and ignorance leads to prejudice, poorness of ideas, and to a very low level of awareness. However, there are some educated, smart, enlightened Americans too, hadn't it been so, the world would have come to an end by now;)...The Problem is that the strongest nation on Earth, the USA, is ruled by an idiot, elected by a bunch of idiots; now THAT really worries me, because the future of our planet is, for the time being, in the ends of a retarded man supported by retarded people. I'm quite hopeful though, I believe in those many enlightened Americans who can chance the situation making it better for us all;) Let Obama be President!

It is a sin that many Americans have not learned what humility is. That boorish, loud and holier then tho attitude is all that many people see, especially in the tourism business. They need to tone it down a notch or two and adapt the when in Rome philosophy. Too bad some ruin it for all.

Well, aren't you the traveled one? Didn't you just ask this same question earlier? What's the matter? Think the answers are going to change?
You're stating that Americans have a pathetic culture? We're just over 200+ years old. A relatively young country compared to most in the world. Within that 200 year period, we have kicked out the British twice, fought Mexico and Spain, and won. Fought two world wars, in which we bailed out the British and the rest of the Europeans, I might add. And we're a world superpower today.
This country has processed more than 6 million new patents since the conception of the US Patent Office in 1790. We invented cars, motorcycles, airplanes, spacecraft, countless medical cures or treatments, atomic energy, and the list goes on. Technologies that every country on this planet uses. See the computer you're on? That's American technology. Did you drive your car today? American technology. Airplane to travel on? Who invented that, you snobby Brit? Two gentlemen from Ohio!! You live on a bitty island who is dependent on the world to keep you alive! And you call us pathetic? At least we can feed ourselves!
You're attempting to promote your agenda of American bashing here on Y/A, and it's falling on deaf ears. No American cares what you think!

Wow, I think everyone is more concerned with breast augmentation and whos going to win American Idol. Its sad but true. I am aware because I have family overseas....but I'm also guilty of being more concerned with my own personal life than stressing on the bigger picture.
