OS doesn't matter. You need to set the password at the access point (i.e wireless modem or whatever ) your are using.

Ok here goes
Step 1)Disconnect Access Point
Step 2)Remove the Lan Cable not from behind the Access Point but from the other end of the patch cable connected to the Access point.
Step 3)Now connect your Laptop or Desktop PC to your access point by connecting the patch cord or cable behind the Access Point <--------------->Computer or Laptop.
Step 4)Now you can go to Internet Explorer and type http://192.168.0.1 or 1.1 please try
Step 5)Now if you see a screen with settings then you can set the password for your Acess Point which is known as Network key .by this no one else can access internet via ur access point .This setting should be in your network settings or security settings please check .

Good Luck

What you need to do is setup either WEP or WPA to enable secure connection between your wireless computer and router. Once you enable one of these on your router you will be asked for a key which also needs to be entered at the laptop too.
