Hi there, I am 38 and I know full well the situation you have described.

I attended the local Job Centre Plus and was informed that one might obtain career advice and guidance via free local seminars. Also the option to pursue a business objective is available should you wish to become an entrepreneur...

Good luck and I hope this might help somewhat!

Why do you not go along to Learn Direct - they will open a whole field of opportunities for you. I say this because you do not say what your specialized field is. Also as you have children how about teachers support assistant - then you can have the holidays free if that needs to be the case.

I took on a whole new career in my thirties doing Home Help full time - really enjoyed this work and moved up the ladder in no time. Just an option at this stage, whatever decission you make I hope it works out for you and yours.

One last bit of advice - stay away from scams I dont expect I need to tell you that they are not all what they seem.

If you go to your local jobcentre and ask for the careers advisor. They deal with any age and are happy to help if you want a change of direction. I was in the same situation a few years ago and went to college for a year at 35. Now studying a degree from home whilst working part-time. Hope that helps.

Do you have something in mind that you always dreamt about doing but never had a go? If so, go for it now! It all depends on what makes your world go around, what makes your heart race! I know people who changed completely what they were doing and felt like it's the beginning of a new life.
I hope you find your perfect job and will be very happy there!

I know for sure - you should not do a job you hate - life is far too short for wasting it on things like that, hey!?

Use practical methods to figure out what you DO enjoy. Think back to when you were a child, what did you see yourself doing as an adult, what was your dream. Take practical steps to get moving in some direction. You may have to do something that isn't necessarily "it" just for income in the beginning. Then pray to God for guidance. It's hard to direct a bicycle that is not moving. Do what you can do in a practical sense, then trust God to take care of what you have no control over. Write down the date you prayed, so you can track when things started looking up.

find something you enjoy, or list what you enjoy doing, there will be website that help.

Speak to job centre, i think the careers service have something that is meant to point you towards careers that suit you as a person after filling out a form.

Speak to friends etc.. they will know you well enough to help.

Totally correct in packing it in. Would be Donald Ducked if I would do a job that made me feel ill for it. Get a paving stone and push it into your bosses face.
