im interested in studying medicine once i leave school. I feel i can get the grades to get into a medicine course and i am very interested in biology and anatomy and enjoy hleping other people. On the career voyager test doctor was fairly high up on the recommended occupations list.

The only problem is that i have had problems in the past dealing with situations involving serious injuries.

how can i 'desensitise' myself in order to become more used to blood and gore?

Medical education is a process of desentization. You will either desensitize within the first few months, or you will drop out. Good luck

I used to be an Ambulance Auxiliary for a local medical centre. The main problem we had was usually dehydration. But we also had a fair share of rock falls and road accidents. Many or which could have been prevented.

The last Paramedic I worked under before I quit told us that if we were helping out at a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) or a Road Traffic Accident (RTA), and it was a particularly gruesome accident, we would be provided with counselling after ward. But if after say a month we were still haunted by images of the accident then maybe it was best if we did not pursue a career in this field.

I am not trying to stop you from achieving your dream, because I believe people who love doing what they do as a job usually do the best job. And you never know you may actually be able to develop something that could be beneficial to the whole world.

You could try becoming a doctor of physiotherapy, if such a position exist. They work really well with M.D's. Don't become a Chiropractor, because apparently they are like the quacks of the medicine world.

Maybe all you need is some exposure to gruesome injuries. I have read somewhere that it can be hard on a lot of people the first time they see a dead body or a really bl**dy injury. But after ward that just get used to it.

Good luck in whatever it is you choose to do.

good choice especially if you are interested in it. You will always be employed :) Try physical Therapy or somethin of the sort where you wont be dealin with much bld. I am not sure about that so just do some research on medical professions. I will warn you while in school you will deal with stuff like that a lot b/c you will be in the learning process

Volunteer, hands on at a hospital. Or, nursing home. You will see people recovering that would be rewarding enough to overcome know that its not "blood and gore.."

Good, luck on your MCAT. :)
