Turn the tap on so it is gently flowing, and make it warm. So your hand is comfortable under it. Remember that Guinea Pigs are sensitive. Not cold, but not burning hot either.
Take the Guinea Pig and hold him under the tap. Try to hold him close to the tap, so the impact of the water on his back is not hard.
Thoroughly wet the pig. Back, feet, underside. Stay away from his head though, so that you don't get water in his eyes. It is safe to do anywhere behind the ears though. He'll wash his face. Remember that their fur is meant to repel water.
Take a bit of Shampoo, and rub it into the fur. Once again, stay away from the head. Be sure to clean the underside as well. This is the part that usually gets the most dirty (At least on Trousers it does because his tummy is white)
After you have applied the Shampoo, Rinse it out. Be sure to get it all out, so you should check it before you take the pig out. You can rub the fur to get all the Shampoo out, but don't push too hard.
Take the towel, and wrap the pig up in it so that he is warm and cozy. After they come out of the water, they usually do this shivering thing for a while. Just hold the pig, snug in the towel for a while, until the shivering stops.
If the pig has long fur, it is important to brush it so it doesn't form knots. I have found that brushing helps to dry it a little bit too, so I brush Bummy, who has short fur, as well as my long-haired Trousers.
After the pig is somewhat dryer than when he came out, take the hair dryer. Turn it on "Low," so the noise is quiet and the blow is soft. The Pigs usually don't mind this. If you can be brushing him at the same time you are drying him, this is good.
It is good if the Guinea Pig shakes himself off. This gets a lot of water off, so that's nothing to worry about.
It is good to return a clean guinea pig to a clean cage. If you're not sure how to clean the cage

Guinea pigs can be washed, though it's not good to do it too often. At most, once every two weeks is good. Keep in mind that pigs can't swim and don't keep them unsupervised in the water!
Simple directions: Stick pig in tub filled with warm water. Water should be 2 inches deep. Use baby soap or kitten shampoo. Lather only to the neck, rinse with a small cup. Make sure not to get water in the eyes or ears. Take piggy out, pat dry with large towel, then let the piggy run around in a warm, dry area so it can dry completely.
A hair drier can be used, but some pgs appear to be afraid of them. Go figure.

No more than once or twice a month and you can use kids shampoo / conditioner. I use Johnson & Johnson on my rats.
