My propellers were smashed on a coral head while at anchor in rough seas. I need to change them under water. Need advice from someone who has done this before, or insight into extra problems I may come across while trying to do this. The water is shallow enough to stand in, but no possibility to haul the boat where it is.

It wasn't anchored in water that shallow, I've relocated the boat since the incident.

the outside comes off easily. the inner requires a special tool. i fashioned one from a 14" piece of ...i think 1 1/4" galvanized pipe. i've changed them in the water before.

The special tool for the inner prop is essential. If the inner nut is not too tight, you might be able to get it with channel lock pliers. I bet your prop shaft is bent so your boat is going to have to come out to at least have it checked. Good luck!
