first we have the insects, causing 'bugs' in our software.
Then the mice show up to eat the bugs, but we end up with holes in our code.
Along comes the cat, chasing the mice, chasing the bugs whipping things up to a frenzy. Ooops, forgot to mention there were 5 cats.
Anyway
Category 5 cable, commonly known as Cat 5, is a twisted pair cable type designed for high signal integrity. Many such cables are unshielded but some are shielded. Category 5 has been superseded by the Category 5e specification. This type of cable is often used in structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet, and is also used to carry many other signals such as basic voice services, token ring, and ATM (at up to 155 Mbit/s, over short distances).

CAT, in relation to network cable, just stands for Category.
Cat5e and Cat6 are types of twisted pair copper cabling, or just network cable to the average end user.

.cat is a top-level domain submitted to ICANN for approval as a sponsored TLD. It would be used to highlight Catalan language and culture. It is sponsored by Associació puntCAT.
