The only site to book online tickets in Indian railway is
http://www.irctc.co.in
(Indian railway & catering tourism co.)
You can book Tickets between 5:00 AM and 11:30 PM
its hard to use site and expect to get errors many times.
If IE gives an error try firefox.

Log on to Indian Railway and to Online reservation and proceed with reservation. You have to register your name in ICRTC with all details and password Once registered you will get the My plan and proceed with bookings against credit card payment only.

where are you going? what country? think of the train companies you have in your country...in canada we have the via rail...so for example if you lived in Canada then google Via Rail and find the webstie.
