what is a zero divisor?
what is meant by Z*8? it says in the book that this is the group of units in Z8 but that doesn't make sense to me

a zero divisor is an element a for which there can be found another element b so that ab = 0.
just like b is a multiplicative inverse of a if ab = 1.

if ab = 0 then both a and b are zero divisors

The Z8 in the group refers to the positive real numbers under addition modulo 8.

Z8 = {0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7}

As far as zero divisors go, I haven't the foggiest idea. Z8 is not a group under multiplication (lacks inverses), so I don't understand how there could be divisors of zero.
