DOVE SYMBOLISE PEACE-
Pablo Picasso is by no means the only person who associates a dove with peace. I’ve been discussing with friends recently why people world-wide tend to use a dove to symbolise peace, and I’ve only just gotten to the bottom of it. People reckon it’s because of the "Noah’s Ark" story in the bible, where Noah is said to have sent out a dove each day to search for dry land. One day the dove came back with a twig from an olive branch in its beak, the next day the dove just didn’t come back. So how is that about peace, rather than about finding dry land? …Or finding dry trees?
Duncan says it could be peace with "God", and that sort of peace was part of the story. But there’s a different symbol for that sort of peace in the same story. The bible suggests the rainbow is a symbol of God’s intention never to flood the earth and kill everyone again. I can’t quite remember how it went, so I’ll have to revise this entry when it comes back to me later, but there was something to do with the dove symbolising reconcilliation - anyway, it made more sense with the latte in hand.
One of the other points Duncan made though, which I found particularly insightful was that you couldn’t really have "the rooster of peace", at least not early in the morning...

Not only does a dove symbol peace, it also symbols that spring is in the air and spring represents 'new beginnings'. The trees grow new leaves, the flowers bloom and the doves nest.

A dove can symbolize innocence, as well as peace. Love, too, though usually two doves together serves this purpose.

Any symbol, can mean different things to different people. Most now days hold the dove, as a conveyer of peace, love, hope, specifically related to God.
In Roman days they would sacrifice them to the gods, to send their spirits up to the gods with their messages and prayers.
Just depends on whom you ask and when i guess.

Most cases peace, purity, calm life, for they were released by Noah when the earth was flooded by God, and returned with an olive branch to signfy the flood was over.
