Everyone keeps saying Hogan/ Triple H/ or some other guy but I really think hm... the Macho Man is whom I believe the best wrestler was...unless Jake the Snake were to crossbreed two snakes somehow crossbreed, or even inspire a crossbreeding of a boa and cobra or even a python.

Ric Flair was the best in-ring performer and interview giver ever. Anyone who was around in the 80s to see his heyday would probably agree.

Steve Austin is the best from the last 20 yrs. His transformation from "Stunning Steve" to "Stonecold" just shows how well he can perform for the public.

I would say HBK Shawn Michaels.
Anyone you has lasted so long at the top and stealing every single show deserved to be the best wrestler ever. He also broke his back quit and came back better than ever. He has not lost a step and he has been wrestling for almost 20 years.
Longetivity alone gives him the title. (Yes I know Ric Flair has been wrestling longer but lately he has dropped to a mid-carder).
