That is, I have contract dispute with someone. I want to sue them in small claims court. Can I sue them in my home town, or do I have to do it where the transaction transpired?

You can sue:

1. Where the defendant lives;

2. Where the contract was made;

3. Where the contract was to be performed.

It's where the transaction took place...I have Lot's of experience in this venue!! By the time you go and file and return to court ,more than once..Figure if your time and pocketbook makes it worthwhile
