it depends on what you will be doing with your computer. if you plan on using two monitors you may want to go with the 256 MB card because you may need the extra memory but if you only plan on using one monitor the n the faster 128 MB memory might be better . but some games may need the extra memory
check the vendors web site of your favourite games ( forums or support or recommendations or requirements) and see what they have to say. like the guy said check with your favourite benchmark site
at toms hardware they have a lot of info. it also matters what the clock speed of the GPU. HOPE THIS HELPS

You can't just compare 128MB of DDR3 against 256MB of DDR2. Clock rates of both ram types need to be taken into account, along with the GPU that will be driving everything. I'd rather have a 7600GT with 256MBs of DDR3 then a 7600GS with 512MBs of DDR2. The GT has faster clocks, allowing more "speed" out of the memory. Compare cards as a whole, not just one feature.

256 megs of ram is always better than 128! Its more ram although the ddr3 is a little faster and consumes less current. The speed is too negligible to make a difference. I dont know where mikes mind is, todays operating systems alone eat ram at a ferocious rate!

well by the sounds of it these are 2 different cards...its not always the memory that matters, you have to look at Core speed and memory speed of the card and pipelines for instance a 320MB Nvidia 8800 will blow away a 512MB ATI X1900

DDR3 has less electricity consumption and transfer at much faster rates, and believe it or not 128 is pretty hard to use up. DDR3 just to keep up with today's technology. :)

The simplest solution is to google a benchmark for each card specifically.
