Sometimes you do not need a college education to take on a position as CEO.
I didn't.

The educational background of the CEOs of companies I've worked at:
1. Had a bachelor's from San Francisco State University
2. Was a lawyer, then started his business
3. Has a regular college degree (not sure what in), but not an MBA
Lots of businesses are started and become sucessful but they're small or medium-sized businesses. Not everyone is in the Fortune 1000.
Many CEOs just started doing what they were good at, started a business, and learned on the job or hired good people.
