i took Max to the vet after he started acting strange, vomiting, drinking and peeing alot, not eating and sleeping all the time, this was unlike my baby. after some blood work we found out he has kidney failure, most definately from the recalled food. he was visiting with my mom a week ago and she knows that i give him 2 whiskas packs a day because its his favorite treat.in anticipation of his visit she went to lablaws and picked up some of the presidents choice packages. after she found out PC was on the recall list she checked the dates on the packages and found that what she had was recalled. tomorrow morning he will be going back to the vets for 48hrs of IV treatment. im so upset. i dont know what to do, i feel helpless and im so mad. i love him so much. i just cant believe it. . i didnt even know about the recall when i first saw he was sick :S so watch ur pets closely. and my poor mom thinks its partialy her fault. this is awful. i wanna do something but i dont know what. :(

when giving my cat a treat i didnt think i was killing him, not to mention im 6 months pregnant and this is more that i can handle right now.i can barely feed myself and pay my rent and now i have vet bills of 1,200$. the money isnt even the main issue, if this happened to a member of your family could you just sit back and do nothing? he is sick and in pain, i am up at 4 am still crying.i sit here and watch him suffer.not you and not menu foods.

I am very sorry, I hope you phoned in and lodge a somplaint

Menufoods may offer some sort of compensation, but supposely they were having financial problems prior, so this may very well put them into bankruptcy, to file a lawsuit you would have to turn down any offers they make, by the time a lawsuit gets to court they could be in bankruptcy so you could potentially end up with zilch.
if you decide to go to court instead

The courts do have not historically put any value on a pet life so court awards tend to be very small

I do not want to really suggest whether you should accept an offer or try for better in court, just pointing out some things that may help you in the decision process, eother route you choose could be a gamble and neither will likely prove very satisfying

My shih tzu Brooklyn became very sick Feb. 9 - I noticed that she was urinating and drinking more then normal. I immediately took her to the vet thinking urinary tract infection - I changed her food immediately after the testing was neg. and many tests later found out it was kidney related. 4 weeks of emotional trauma. She was on the Nutro wet food - I still have the packages and all are on the recall list. She is on a kidney diet (I cook her food) . Go to the FDA website and find the complaint number for your state and file a complaint. I look at this as a wake-up to all the canned and processed food that is out there for my entire family. I feel for you. Use your strength to make sure you take care of Max immediately and that he is taken care of.

I'm sorry, you have no case. The food was recalled, so you won't get to sue for neglegence. The vet bills are optional. Pets are considered property in the eyes of the law. If you are lucky, the only thing you'd get is the replacement cost of the animal. And once you pay for court fees, you will have spent more than what you made.

One or two days of the recalled food will not cause kidney failure to the extent you seem to be seeing. I am very sorry your cat is having these problems but to be perfectly honest, I doubt the recalled foods are the cause, most likely they are simply exascerbating a pre-existing problem.

It is unfortunate that this happened to your baby and I will keep him in my prayers, but in response to your question---please don't sue because inevitably, that puts people out of work & homes---therefore, taking food out of innocent childrens' mouths. Would you like to feel responsible for that? Why don't you ask your mother.
