It's 1984(Don't worry, you're in no way the first to make that mistake), and yes, there is a movie of it.

Of course, the book is better, but you still have to check out the movie.
You should also read Orwell's book Animal Farm, if you haven't already. It's marvelous as well, and it talks about the government too.
And you should read (also if you already haven't) A Clockwork Orange by Burgess. It's a nightmare form of the future as well. There are movies made of Animal Farm and Clockwork Orange as well, and after reading the books you should check out those movies too!
And if you haven't seen the movie V For Vendetta, then you should watch it. You'll see a lot of connections to 1984 in it, and almost everyone who loves 1984 loves this movie.

The name of the book is actually 1984 not 1987 and it has been adapted for movies twice:
first time:

Yes, there was, but you're thinking of 1984, which is also the name of the movie. It came out in the year 1984. It starred John Hurt and was Richard Burton's last movie.

yes it is called 1984 but they also had a weekly show out called big brother. it was a contest they all lived in a house together and they cameras seen everything they were doing
