do you strike up a conversation with someone as you wait or do you find it weird if someone does to you?

I'm a people person and it really depends on how I'm feeling, but if the person looks like they are bored I will talk to them.

Best place to strike up a conversation and lessen the wait is at the check-out counter when you can compare notes with the person(s) next to you.

I don't strike up a conversation. If they do it to me, i usually respond with polite small talk, but never continue into a full conversation.

In a grocery store lineup, I like to cut the cheese and say to the person next to me, "Wow, that's really stinky!"

It depends... I'm kindof a moody person. I have been known to do both, but if I'm not in the mood, I give a non-committal answer and turn the other way, maybe grab and start reading a magazine...

i never start up conversations but i will talk to someone if they start up one, i dont think they are wierd unless its a REALLY random subject.

i dont do both i on my mp3 player and listen 2 music if it is a very long line..
