Without any knowledge or experience in maintaining a salt water aquarium you are not ready for a pet lobster. Your pet won't last very long. Large Chinese Restaurants or Red Lobster have them on hand. Tell them that you want one to go but not to cook it.

At some stores they sell live lobsters in tanks, but they kill them before they give them to you. Set up a tank at home like a regular salt water fish tank then get the lobster from the store. Tell them you want it alive not dead. They might just wrapp it up (make sure they dont put in in plastic lol) then when you get it home wash it is water to get a little of the salt off before putting in in your tank. This will make it so that the lobster does not add any of the salt in his body into your tank water. Feed him gold fish.
Option B... get a cray fish. They live in fresh water are smaller and practically the same. Not to mention cheeper.
GOOD LUCK.

I don't know where you live. But here we have Price Choppers. And they have a big tank full of lobsters that are sadly destined to be somebody's dinner. Heck they even put rubberbands on their claws so they can't fight back. Buy one, and spare it from being somebody's dinner. They must have a big grocery store chain where you can buy a fresh lobster. Heck, I live in about as redneck a place as you can imagine, but we do have a price Chopper. And every time I walk by that Lobster tank I just wanna reach in and take the rubber bands of their claws so they can say, Yeah, try to cook me now, now that I can fight back!

the big lobsters you see in restaurant tanks do not make good pets, they would need a huge setup that's enormously expensive (into the thousands) and would cost a ton to run as well.
HOWEVER, you could always get a freshwater smaller alternative, the "blue lobster" for instance, which is in fact a crayfish. grows to 5-7" long, and needs a 20 gallon tank to himself. do not keep fish with him, he'll eat them!

If you went to red lobster, they have a bunch in the tank; maybe you can work out a deal to buy one from them, thats still alive.
