I got a yellow belly slider aquatic turtle last tuesday so just over a week - he seems used to his tank, eats and swims - does not seem to bask a lot whenever i see him. loves to stay behind the filter or the heater. My main question is is he lonely - he was the last one left at the pet shop and since they have not had any deliveries - now they say they have hatchlings which will take about 2 months to be ready to sell. He is also about 8-9 weeks. My only concern is I dont want him to be lonely and die. As i never wanted just a single one for this reason its just been due to supply. I am based nr Heathrow Airport and I got the turtle about 10 miles away for 10£ now the only places i can find is one place that is priced atleast double. Does anyone have a single turtle who has lived alone fine? thanks

Turtles are not social animals for the most part. People who keep lots of them report that if and ONLY if they all have a LOT of room do they seem to prefer having companions. If the tank is crowded, they seem to prefer being alone.

Tank size should be about 10 gallons of actual water per linear inch of turtle shell. Under this is not terrible for a single turtle, but if you decide to keep multiples, they have to have space.

LOTS of keepers raise singles turtles that seem to be happy and healthy their entire long lives.

ought to that is that your tank water is only too chilly? The water would desire to be between 80-ninety degress and the final tank temp would desire to be around ninety-ninety 5 stages. He must be at a loss for words by ability of them temp and be attempting to hybernate. I had a similar concern. additionally, if people attempt to handle it too lots or it incredibly is being moved around lots, it must be under pressure out and hence its no longer eating, yet maximum probable its the temp. different than that, uncertain

these reptiles are very social creatures. You may want to get another, but I doubt he wil die if you dont. Decorate his tank very nice with rocks and water plants to give him things to explore during the day.

Also, becareful when getting turttles like these in my state (california) the small ones like you have are illegal because they are SWARMING with salmonella.

bye!
