i mean seriously, lets look at it. ACC was all hyped and had only 1 sweet sixteen team, same thing with the Big 10(not technically east coast but still closer to it than west). Everyone hates the west coast and underestimates all the teams. i mean the Pac-10 has 3 sweet sixteen teams (shoulda been 4 with Wazzu if they didn't choke =.=) Ive watched east coast and west coast ball and the west seems better to me. what are your guys thoughts on this?

There is an eastern bias to college sports in general because of the time zones. Many games in the Pacific time zone come on when easterners are starting to go to bed or just get on with other weekend activities. Consequently, a whole season can go by without many prominent west coast teams even getting seen by these people. Then, they wake up 3 hours earlier, so their media centers have a 3 hour head start in forming opinions for the rest of the country. East coast bias in a nutshell. West coast teams, therefore, will always have to do a bit extra, win 34 straight like USC did in football, win titles like UCLA did in bball, or simply have a convincing win over a high profile eastern squad they're familiar with, to get noticed. This brings me to my second point...

Fact is that, in recent history, western teams have not only not done that little bit extra, they have not even won their share. Since UCLA's run of dominance ended in 1975, only 3 western teams (western here defined as left of Kansas) have won championships - UNLV in '90, UCLA in '95, and 'Zona in '97. The bulk of the championships in that span of time have been won by eastern and to a lesser extent midwestern teams. That's just simple fact. Naturally, then, these schools will get the benefit of the doubt come tournament time and western schools will be left having more to prove. Until the pendulum swings back to the west (and it looks like that is what's starting to happen) this will continue. If western schools can prove themselves with final fours and titles in the near future you will see the bias lessen significantly.

Memo to wc: Washington st. was a good team that got beat by another good team in 2OT. If Washington St. is indeed awful, the only thing Vandy "proved" is that they are awful too, because they needed 2 OT's to win. Give Vandy credit, but Wazzou let that game slip away. If OSU didn't miraculously escape Xavier you would be calling Ohio St. "awful" as well.

I understand what you are saying, but you have to think about it traditionally there are alot better teams on the east coast than the west coast. The Pac10 is one of the top conferences in the nation and i def. agree that there are alot of conferences who are overrated such as the Big10 and the BigEast (forgot to mention them they are SOOO overrated) but the ACC is tough for the most part, they did struggle this season badly and the only team left is UNC - the Pac10 is def. better this season. But the east coast in general is MUCH better than the west coast. The west has UCLA, USC, and Oregon - thats about it. Washington St. was awful IMO (Vandy proved that) and Arizona really was a disappointment.

As far as history though:

West - UCLA, Arizona, sometimes Oregon, sometimes Washington.....am i forgetting anyone?

East - Duke, UNC, UK, Mich. St., UT, Florida, Gtown, Pitt, UofL, Syracuse, UConn and the list goes on and on.

If you want to talk about bias in college sports, look no further than the bias in college football towards the west coast. Just ask Florida!!

one million. ESPN is a trade whose mandate is to make as so much cash as feasible. two. The extra men and women watch a sport, the more cash ESPN makes. three. The greater a crew's fanbase, the extra men and women will watch a sport presenting that crew. Given the ones 3 matters, of path ESPN goes to exhibit extra of the crew's with the big fanbase. This is not PBS in which they have got a mandate to be all reasonable and same, it is a trade - in case your crew does not have a big ample fan base, manage it. Or song into your neighborhood protection. It's now not ESPN's "fault", and it isn't any East Coast bias. It's with no trouble that Boston, NY, Philadelphia have essentially the most effective correct now and essentially the most lovers. It's simply economics. And it isn't continuously the East Coast that will get this cures - whilst I began looking baseball on TV in approximately 1972 the NBC Game of the Week featured Cincinnati reputedly EVERY week. It's simply economics, time for every person to be given it and transfer on.

I don't see an East Coast bias here. It's mostly because there aren't many schools not in the East Coast with a championship tradition in mens' hoops. The only schools I see fit this best are Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, & UCLA.

I strongly disagree.....ucla....washington st.......oregon....usc....all seeded 5 or better....and arizona got whipped by purdue and standford got beat by louisville even worse.....if you want "hating"....make sure your teams aren't seeded high....or getting their teeth kicked in for that matter......no one is hating on pac 10...just because they arent getting all of the attention (which they shouldnt) doesnt mean people are hating on them.......you people out west are just like SEC fans....always whining because they think they deserve 100% of the attention because they think their teams are the best....you dont see us big 10 fans complaining about the terrible officiating in the illinois vtech game...
