well you aren't as anti conservative as you think f you are upset with the mainstream media.Thats one thing the conservatives are always harping on. By the way the conservatives aren't against sex education ...they just believe that parents should take a much more active role in teaching it...not the schools as much. You know what...and I applaud you for it...you really aren't liberal at all...welcome to the right side...By the way...lol..if you think government is way to much involved in your everyday life then BINGO! your a conservative....Good Luck!

I think that experiment has gone back and forth several times. There was zero sex ed, then there was sex ed, then there was sexless ed. I think the schools have attempted to solve this problem from every angle, and the problems have all remained unchanged. What it comes down to is that it's not an effective use of the schools. While the subject shouldn't be taboo, I think we've wasted enough time including the various approaches to the subject on the curriculum. The government cannot legislate good parenting, but they can take away the crutch. The schools are there to teach children, not raise them.
Liberals: Please stop trying to affect social change through the educational institutions. I realize that your hearts are in the right place, but pushing a social agenda on children is creepy, and the kids really need to be working on their Math, Reading, History, Spelling (please?), Geography, and especially Writing. There's enough already on those little plates without trying to decipher mixed messages from the government. If you can get them into college, they'll probably vote Democrat anyway.
Conservatives: Please stop trying to instill your social values through the educational institutions. I know you've got the best of intentions, but pushing social agendas on children is creepy. Ignorance and Innocence do not go hand in hand. Unless your children are stupid, they've already noticed sex. Attempting to shelter them completely from the concept is ridiculous, and bad parenting. Unless you address the issue, your children will explore it on their own. It's not their school teachers job to tell them not to.
An educated mind is more likely to make intelligent decisions, so let your kids make you proud.

To your question, yes. It is also an perfectly valid arguement for spaying and neutering some of the human race. My faith in humanity has slowly diminished over the last several years-more so as I watched younger ones of my generation grow into adults. Now I am seeing the next generation growing up and I am glad (for the most part) that I have not brought a life into this world. I'm not that old (35) but I can see where we as a society messed up by getting rid of the tried and true methods of child rearing and adopted these so called "new and improved" methods. Society is taking a gradual nosedive right into the dirt and if something isn't done about it we will never be able to pull out of it.

I definitely agree, and I'm nowhere near being a 'liberal egghead'. The first respondant just illustrates the thought process the government goes through which has resulted in the current state of our knowledge of common sexual health. The often fallacious knowledge of how "sex is cool", "everyone is doing it", and countless urban legends have been spread around in our consciousness. So why shouldn't one combat these myths with the facts, including safe sex practices to prevent disease and pregnancy?
Oh, and BTW, the PC has become an integral part of modern life, whether it is essential to human survival or not. Would the first respondant do away with electricity, running water, and the wheel, I wonder? None of those were available to our forefathers, who nevertheless got by.

I agree. Looking at these questions really baffle me.I think sex education is a must but the problem is that the parents have the choice in letting the kids see it or not. I truly believe if the parents are not going to be honest with their children about sex then they should at least let the schools teach them. Because there are so many kids out there getting into a lot of unnecessary drama instead of growing up.

the schools here do teach it but they only teach the mechanics of it nothing about what the kids on here ask
they teach it in the 5th grade (the teacher that taught it this year told the boys that - it is OK for boys to have sex if they use a condom )
but they did not teach them anything about birth control or std's
one of the girls that took the class asked my son what virginity was a week after the class
i had to call the school because some of my son and his friends where talking and they some how got the idea from this class that virginity was a bad thing and something you should lose as fast as you can
i spent the rest of the night on the phone with parents explaining this to pissed off mothers who wanted to know how and where these boys got this idea (remember these are 5th grade boys ages 10-11 )
to answer your question no we should not leave it up to school to teach our kids about sex
the parents need to make sure there children are prepared for life and know everything they need to know before they let them leave the house dont leave it up to your school
parents are leaving all the teaching of there children to daycare and school and then wonder why there kids know nothing

I was a teen and I dont remember being this ill informed and I don't remember the other girls being this clueless either.

I agree....I feel that shielding a child from reality is more detrimental than giving them the education to make the choice for them self when the time is right. Sex ed didnt make me have sex, my curiosity made me have sex long before I ever had the course in school. Its human nature, thats why the preachers son/daughter is always the bad kid on the block.

You are not alone here! I made it to age 30 without children or STD's because I educated myself and was responsible. Kids are going to have sex whether they have sex ed or not. Absitnence only education only works until it doesn't. Comprehensive sex education should be mandatory for every child.

I hear you, but a government bureaucracy teaching something as deeply personal and basic as sex ed doesn't fly either.
And the bottom line is that some people are just plain stupid and self-destructive and deserve whatever happens to them.
