i have red in magazine that ps3 performance in playing regular dvds resulted in white wash pictures and playing music cds is not good either but it works better on mp3 music. Im asking this because one of my friend wants it it to be the center of his entertainment. He has lots of dvd and music cds collected. Considering its high price he wants to be sure before he buys it. Honest opinion please no marketing hype.

no question about its games and blu-ray capability. My friend plans to connect it to his cinema system and dispose his ageing dvd player.

but it says it can play dvds and music cds what i mean is its included in what the consumer suppose to pay so we expect it to performs fairly.

the ps3 ( europe ) will give you 7.1 ch surround sound, also will upscale any dvd ( if you use the hdmi cable and have a hd ready tv ).
so yes it can be done

I am using it only for games, but I have seen dvd's two three times, it was ok in general, sometimes the frames where moving too slow. Then again its for games not for watching DVD's or listening to music, dudes. Get a DVD player for movie fun.
