An ability to communicate verbally is what gives Brian his "character". If Brian and Stewie were unable to speak, they would only be background characters. Certainly, anyone that has a baby or a dog understands that these family members have personalities that lend themselves to the family dynamic. If these characters could not communicate through verbal dialogue, their personalities could not shine through on a 30 minute cartoon. Brian and Stewie are the funniest characters on the show, after Peter (and I have a thing for Chris because I would "totally do" Seth Green). I think it's just a the only way to successfully portay a baby and a dog as members of a family, without making them background "noise".

simple its a cartoon, they don't have to be realistic. If he just sat around and didn't do anything he wouldn't make a good charactor for the show, and besides if stewie can talk and he is a baby why can't the dog talk. A gigantic fighting chicken doesn't seem realistic either does it? It adds to the ratings of the show and makes it far more hilarious... It also adds to the plot , a realistic cartoon would be really boring

relies upon on the animal. Brian's cousin talks. The Evil monkey would not yet i do no longer think of he needs to and that rattling sizable chicken never gets of project to declare a notice because of the fact he and Peter are constantly struggling with.
