Like most people have said, English and Communications are good starts. Definitely Political Science and History. But other than that, think about what kind of writing you want to do and study some of that. Say you really like Entertainment - maybe look into some stuff with Theater or Art (maybe more as a minor than a major). Sometimes to get a Journalism degree, you need to have external specialties like these (I do at Michigan State) so that provides a little bit of experimentation.

If you want to be a journalist you really need a degree in Journalism. However, as an entry point a good Communication course would be a stepping stone or starting point.

For example, some sort of business degree if you want to write for a business publication.

science degree to write science.
certification/degree in the culinary sciences to be a food critic
degree in cinema studeis to be a film critic
politics to become a politics reporter

It's not so much what you major in as experience. Most journalists will tell you that they learned the most by working, not sitting in a classroom. Study what you want, but write for the school paper and get clips and internships.
