When I was pregnant, I went to a midwife. She suggested drinking red raspberry leaf tea. Not raspberry tea, the leaf part is what you need, if you can't gut the tea, try the capsuls. They're sold at most pharmacy's or health food stores. The castor oil thing worked for me as well. I drank castor oil mixed with orange juice and a dribble of vodka. I know hard liquer isn't "good" for pregnancy, but it relaxes your body enough to let the castor oil take effect. The orange juice was a bad idea. (i learned this after trying to drink the concoction) because oil and water don't mix, it made the texture lumpy...it was gross. Pure castor oil may be better than mixing it. The sex thing is supposed to work as well as ...playing with your nipples and breasts. When your nipples are stimmulated, your uteris contracts (like when you're nursing at first and your stomach cramps up). Have fun trying all of these things, but don't do the castor oil and then have sex...the castor oil gives you diarreah, you can immagine what may happen!!!

Aside from sex and walking and spicy foods, there is a way that did it for me, it's kinda icky but hey, so is birth. Go to a health food store and buy a bottle of evening of primrose oil vitamins, they have a clear easily dissolved case, place two inside your vagina, as close to the cervix as possible, I found the best way to do this was with a tampon applicator. You do this right before you go to bed and the oil has time to soften, or ripen your cervix as you sleep. My midwife told me about it helping some women, as my son was overdue, and I had family visiting from out of state that wanted to witness the birth, it took a couple of days, but it did work! Congrats and best of luck to you.

Another benefit of sex to induce labor -- the sperm produces prostaglandins that help ripen and dilate the cervix.
If you can stand it, a dose of castor oil or eating a pint of ice cream (especially if you are lactose intolerant) may help kick in labor
And walking a few miles would help...just make sure you are walking close by to somewhere you can get back to your delivery location!!!

i simply asked my doctor and she induced me at 38 weeks...the castor oil is sure fire, and here in Michigan, one of our main news outlets broadcasted last year that black licorice induces labor for SOME expectant mothers. but some of the mothers say they had to consume an entire bag to feel the effects.
it can't hurt anything to try it! Congratulations!

my friend too castor oil and she said it worked immediately. She was 10 1/2 months preg. and doctors wouldn't induce her so she did it herself but if you just can't take it go to the doc and see what they say.

Take a walk or have sex (avoid sex if your bag of waters is broken). Orgasms produce oxytocin, the chemical that is synthesized and used to induce labor (the synthetic drug is called pitocin).

Are you completely dilated and effaced?
Why would you want to make the baby come out if you haven't opened up yet? That will make for the most horrific pain you can imagine.
The longer your baby stays in, the healthier it will be. You have to think about the baby....not your discomfort.
Good luck.

Sex, pineapple juice, acupressure points (around your achilles tendon on the back of your ankle and the meaty part of your hand between the thumb and index finger), nipple stimulation...
