i have an idea...i think people should be encouraged to rent rather than buy pirated VCDs or DVDs that they will watch only once or twice...
Maybe, if you compare how much a person who buys original stuffs spends with how much a person who buys pirated stuffs spends...you'll see that they (those who buy pirated) spend more money...
This is probably because pirated stuffs are too cheap that they keep spending on it...they thought they spend less...but the reality is, they spend more for stuffs that they hardly even use...
People who buy original stuffs on the other hand, don't buy too much or have to control what they buy as original stuffs are expensive...
So, what i've to point out here is...pirated stuffs are actually bad for your wallet!!!
And again, i think the people should be encouraged to rent VCDs or DVDs as they'll only watch it once or twice...If you really like that movie, then only you buy the original...this way has more potential on fighting piracy...
By the way, nice name- Curiosity killed the kucing...;P

The problem with the current trend in attitudes is people don't understand intellectual property - mainly because they have none of their own to protect. They are purely consumers - creating nothing new, original, entertaining - living vicariously thorugh the thoughts, words, and deeds of others.
In such a consumer oriented mindset, the idea that a book, movie, play, song, etc... represent "property," especially when they can be so easily replicated (i.e. downloaded from a server) has become foreign to them.
The schools must teach students early on about the concepts of "intellectual" property, and parents must instill morals and ethics into their children.
Failing that, the government should just shoot a few of the worst pirates.

It's simple - Asians dont have respect for the concept of intellectual property because it's never been part of our culture, so we dont give a damn. In fact buying illegal DVDs is such an integral part of life, i cant imagine people giving it up!!! Only way is if its totally banned like in Singapore, and authories actually enforce laws strictly for those caught.
To buy pirated music and books is bad because those people make their money from royalties so we're actually eating into their paychecks and livelyhoods.
But so long as real DVDs remain ridiculously expensive, dont expect Malaysians to buy original. Personally, i dont care about movies because everyone gets paid upfront (haha yes, ethics is a grey area when it comes to movies).
End of the day, if authorities are serious, they'd bring down the cost of original DVDs and enforce the ban seriously.
A bit stupid to go on about busting major DVD rings while DVDs are openly sold in every neighbourhood!

Piracy is stealing. If everyone bought pirated movies/music the movie/music industry would stop making dvd/cd. That is like asking to leave the bank vault open for anyone to take money.

the attitude of the record labels, you know who set the prices of cd in here has to change as well. they are too greedy, even Steve Jobs says this and he's a capitalist just like them, and he is involved in this industry selling music at iTunes and despite successfully selling a lot (300mils+) of digital music copies the record labels still insist on higher price than $0.99 per song. i used to see an ori cd sold for RM50, that's why people just buy pirated stuff without a guilty conscience. on one hand is a pirate the other is a daylight robber. cheap good wins!

simple......lower the price to that affordable level for all. Reason is: At the moment, the volume of sales is very low due to piracy, therefore the loyalty & production fixed cost charges per unit is extremely high. When you hv high sales volume, the production shall come down significantly and let everyone buy the original product instead of fake product.

Maybe if the music studios and movies saw all the threads here and in music they could go after them. I know on DVD's it's $250,000 if they get caught or 5 years in jail or both.
I've posted a few threads about this subject myself and the people who are doing this kind of are not even bothering to answer my question. Lke this one below

when the buying stops, the piracy will too...
i think its easier to stop people from buying products made from animals than asking them to stop buying pirated CDs! but anyway, why is everyone worried more abt stopping pirated CDs, software rather than stuff like T-shirts, shoes, perfumes?
hehehehe.... i guess i dun have d answer but more questions... :)
